Shiatsu is a form of massage therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the body, called meridians. There are 12 meridians located in various areas of the body. I follow these meridian lines moving from one point to another in a rhythmic sequence.
Shiatsu is an oriental form of bodywork that combines Japanese massage therapy traditions and Chinese medicine theory with western physiology and anatomy. Shiatsu was developed in Japan from the techniques of Anma, a traditional Japanese massage with was originally practiced by blind people.
The word Shiatsu comes from the Japanese word ‘Shi’ which means finger and ‘Atsu’ which means pressure. During a Shiatsu Massage I will apply pressure with my fingers, thumbs, palms, elbows or knees to points on your body, along specific meridians, depending on the individuals health concerns. By stimulating these points the flow of vital energy is promoted to facilitate healing.
I am a first year student and have already completed a number of introductory courses.
